Since 1992, Thomas has been an active part of the electronic club and festival scene in Denmark… either as a DJ, producer, remixer, event organiser or curator.
DJ wise , ambient, drum´n Bass, dub and electronica have all been recognisable ingredients in his mixes… more than often, not mixed seamlessly tempo wise, but rather focusing on creating a certain dynamic mood and feel, creating a patchwork of styles into musical storytelling. In the mid to end 90´ this same blend landed him a job as a guest dj at Danish National Broadcasting Corporation.
Since 1994 and onwards, Thomas has split his time production wise into many different projects. Most known are perhaps the collaboration projects, Future 3 and System (alongside Acustic and Dub Tractor) , Opto (with Carsten Nicolai/Alva Noto) and the Bro/Knak project (with composer and musician, Jakob Bro).
As Opiate, Thomas released his solo debut, Objects for an ideal world in 1999. This album both introduced and updated a younger audience to elements of more academic traditions of Musique Concrete alongside a healthy mix of the first mentioned Ambient, Drum´n Bass and Electronica styles. The release recieved a nice reception and was quickly labelled a classic national electronic release. The album also caught the attention of high profile musicians such as Alva Noto, Bjork and Ryuichi Sakamoto, whom he all ended up collaborating with, and from there helped Thomas tour and visit most of Europe, US and Japan, but also opened doors for working on music for film, dance, theatre and visiual art. For his work and contribution to electronic music, Thomas has been appointed a 3 year working grant, and in 2023 also recieved a lifetime honoraium from the Danish Art Foundation.
The sound of Opiate is the meeting of everyday discrete sounds, arranged in shifting and twisting rhythmic layers and dubbed out melodic loops...This should also be the case when guesting Kune as part of the Echocord line-up.
